It would be nice to have pictures to show the world what the interior of this building looked like. Maybe this "school" was really a fake school that just wanted to make some money "teaching" things that it really did not teach.

my own frustration is that its rather impossible to connect both sides, if you are not connected to this or not having work experiences there. You are either in design or in business. From my experience it is easier in a product driven design area, but it hasnt arrived yet in architecture or urbanism sectors. Hopefully i can tell you more about the combination in 2 years, when i´m further on my own personal path into design management :-)

@ Gunter: To a large degree I'm fully with you on this, Gunter. Where I do think that there is a market/niche/opportunity is the field on combining management models/theories with design (research) methodologies that are resulting in much richer insights than applied apart. This is actually where my workshops on 'Designing Strategy' are focused on:

i personally think that if you want to combine design and business, do it either through working on management projects in your design practice or in the case of an MBA just do an ordinary course like anything else....
Being an designer myself i dont see the big need to be also doing an design-focussed MBA, what i want to learn there is management, business development and strategy tools and skills - and i can get this with any good MBA course out there...
I rather think the molding process starts already before and after these courses

cheers,
Gunter

@ Sabine: I will get back to you with a personal note on the questions you are raising. After all I more and more fear (which is not equivalent to my believe or vision) that the impression that management and design are strongly linked is definitively not there where we as a community would want it to be. And I do not blame our efforts for this, but still a lot has gone wrong with that particular case ...

@ Jean: From a general perspective I did not want to create the impression that this affected me emotionally. It did on another level, but that's another story. - I fully agree that there needs to be more agility embedded in modern education. Unfortunately such environments/projects are hardly funded by the EU and/or are delegated into the hands of such players who exactly stem from the 'years of history' you've mentioned instead … in the end it's still politics that have a lot of power if we like it or not. Maybe we should have a chat on this where I will lay out my view/vision in more detail. … and yes! I still recall that we still have an open email thread ;-) I will for sure get back to you!

It is difficult for me to say much about the school itself, and the reasons for starting and closing it.
But having witnessed or acted towards opening or closing courses, I must say that, in the field of design, we should not get too emotional about this. 5 or 6 years of existence is a bit short maybe, still this means about 3 to 4 intakes.
I believe that, besides the large structure that have years of history, more "light and agile" courses and curriculae should exist. They offer fast responses, require excellence from the teachers, and serve the purpose of prototyping programmes. But that's another, lenghty discussion.

Anyhow, I hope that the current students get the education they deserve till the very end.

Dear Ralf,

That is probably one of the saddest news I have heard in a while. It does not come as a surprise for anyone who had an eye on the school over the past years. And yet, I am stunned. What does this mean for the German educational landscape? What does this mean for design management? Does the form give any reasons? How can this happen at at a time in which design is linked stronger to management than ever?

Best, Sabine
