To Be Or Not To Be: Personas & Design Research

In the course of a current client project my interest in ‘empathic design‘ research tools has been triggered recently. Amongst others I’ve also come across personas as a tool to ‘uncover’ possible dimensions of a set of archetypical attributes of (possible) customers.

Therefore with great interest I’m watching the current conversation between blog/web veterans Steve Portigal and Peter Merholz about the pros and cons of the use of personas.

While I do not want to regurgitate their arguments may I recommend reading their contributions directly on their blogs linked above?
