Conferences: reboot9 and Overlap07

More or less unnoticed within the usual “noise” a few minutes ago my newsreader has informed me that Victor Lombardi has posted a short first impression summary from “Overlap 07” which took place from June 15-17 in Toronto, Canada.

Have I been the only one who did not recognize this event to take place or has this been some sort of ‘coterie’ event this year in contrast to more open promotion last year? – Anyway slightly envious I must admit that I find the list of speakers and topics highly interesting and I clearly would have wished to attend … not only because it seems to break with the ‘usual’ (no example link to be published, yet – I’ll give the organisation one more try ;-) conference model.

On the other hand I’ve been lucky enough to attend another equally fun and interesting conference ‘reboot9’ in Copenhagen two weeks ago as well. Even though clearly different in terms of content and direction, but equally ‘affordable’ and inspired by breaking with the usual ‘buddy network’ and ‘show me your business card’ attitude.

Find good reviews of reboot9 here (written by blog friend Ton Zylstra) as well as here. Hope Victor and his peers will do a similar wrap-up …

Ralf — thanks for the link. Overlap is an invitation-only event in order to keep the attendance at 40 people, which allows us to have the kind of rich conversation that happens. That said, registration doesn’t actually fill up that fast, so if you contact us when the planning happens for next year (keep an eye on the website) getting in probably won’t be difficult.

    Dear Ralf,

Always good to read your postings and discover what you are up to.

Have you thought of writing up the pros and cons of move away from “conference as usual” to the new models that are emerging? Would be fascinating to hear your take on it.

Thanks as always for keeping us up to date here in Iowa!

    Keep creating,
    Mike

    Hi Mike,

how great to hear from you again :-) By reading your message I know what I’ve been missing over the last couple of weeks. - Definitively time to have a talk again and hear how things are going in Iowa!
    Greetings, Ralf.

@Victor: thanks for your note as well! I’ve simply had the impression that last year the conference has been promoted at some more places/sites and by some more bloggers. In any case thanks for keeping me up-to-date on the procedure for next year! Grüße aus Deutschland, Ralf.
