I’m definitively the last one to join the choir that “Business is Evil” and that the creativity tools for the future should rest in the hands of ‘Design’ only.
On the contrary I’m a firm believer that if Design and Designers want to join and remain at the tables where the discussion about money going to be spent take place, then they should take the words of design management icon & pioneer Peter Gorb seriously:
“And what designers need to learn, and this is the most important thing, is the language of the business world. Only by learning that language can you effectively voice the arguments for design.”
Hence what designers should be clearly aware of is the kind of species they are dealing with and accordingly develop strong arguments. Wanna know why?
Well, today via media influencer I’ve been pointed to a video made/sponsored/facilitated by one of the largest business and accounting consultancies in the world: “Ernst & Young”. As it seems it has been produced some years back by E&Y in order to illustrate their corporate spirit and the level of creativity and leadership you can expect when you start working for/with them. Here’s snippet: ‘Oh Happy Day, Ernst & Young showed me a better way …’
Way to go for ‘Design, Design Management, Design Thinking, Sustainability’ in the corporate world … Consider: These are the guys you have to convince and pass prior to get the budget for your ideas to come true.
Addendum: I’ve had to press the stop button after 2 minutes as I couldn’t stand it any longer … ;-)
