As some of you know I’m not solely working as a self-employed business consultant (Design Management & Social Innovation), but also as an academic/teacher for international graduate and post-graduate Design Management programs. And to be honest I really love this job even though the (necessary) mental switch between under-graduate/graduate and post-graduate students is quite remarkable.
However one of the common experiences of a teacher seem to be that while you get older your students constantly seem to remain in the same age cluster ;-) As I’ve just turned 40 I expect the experience even stronger from now on (LoL). On the other hand this situation does also hold a positive experience since over the years I can trace what my former students have achieved in their careers once they’ve completed their studies.
Therefore I’m more than happy to see a former KISD student now appearing as one of the European DMI Conference speakers in Copenhagen from March 14–16, 2007. Together with his boss Han Hendriks (former Westminster Design Management MBA) Roderique Duell (former KISD student) of Johnson Controls will hold a talk titled: “If You Can’t Count It, It Isn’t Real:Design Performance in the Automotive Business”.
As Roderique’s dissertation co-supervisor I’m even more delighted (and amused) to read this since his dissertation has been about quite the opposite not to say ‘non-countable-at-all’ topic (I hope Roderique will share some snippets here on this blog pretty soon)! Accordingly the learning curve must have been pretty challenging ;-) In any case good luck with the talk!
Unfortunately I can’t join the Design Management crowd and Roderique’s talk in particular this year. However I think I have a good reason for my absence as I will be officially nominated as a Professor for Design Management here at the local Design Department of the University of Applied Sciences, Münster/Germany tomorrow. I know, I know: Shameless self-plug …
