5 Things about Me

So here we continue with the “5 Things Meme” triggered by Thomas Madsen-Mygdal who tagged me recently:

– After finishing my high school diploma at the age of 19 I had to do my [in the mid. 80’s] compulsory military service. I’ve left the German Air Force as a lieutenant. From today’s perspective I would do everything to circumvent this mostly negative experience.

– While studying business administration afterwards up to the early 90’s I’ve managed to hack into my first internet connection ever in February 1992 via a text terminal (Novell) gateway in our department IT pool room. I’ve had no clue what I was doing, but found it rewarding to explore services like telnet, ftp, gopher, …

– I will turn 40 in a couple of days. With only a one hour difference our youngest son Bengt (with Finn being his 6 year old brother) would have almost managed to celebrate his first birthday (10.02.06) on the same day than Astrid and myself (11.02.).

– Unfortunately I do not have a formal background in design, but fortunately my wife is a trained graphic designer who raised my (design) passion especially for typography.

– I discovered the domain of “Design Management” in 1996 by browsing for design books in a museum book store in Cologne. The title which triggered my attention was called: “Die stillen Designer” (The silent designers). I think this title aimed for explaining the mostly “hidden” tasks of a design manager which at that time has been mainly characterized as “tactical”.

As it seems I seem to be one of the last ones who hasn’t been tagged so far ;-). Therefore may I suggest that I wait for the next “tagging season” which usually starts at the beginning of December with 5 people I’d like to tag. I hope that within the months to remain I will meet some new interesting folks online/offline.

Isn’t it so often true we are incomplete without our wives?

Great to learn more about you, your journey and how it all comes together in your life.

    Keep creating,
    Mike
