About Cheerleaders and Football Players

In Niti Bhan’s recent posting ‘Fear of blogging’ she’s describing the blogoshere as follows:

“As with any large high school :) there are cliques and groups and popular kids and football players and cheerleaders and dorks and nerds.”

Those of you who hang out with the ‘cliques’ (and I do it myself from time to time as well ;-) have noticed the interesting story about the discussion on “Innvoation versus Design” initiated via a ‘Design Observer’ posting by Michael Beirut called: ‘Innovation is the New Black’. Beirut us heavily criticizing the inflationary use of the word innovation and its mix-up with design these days.

What I can’t comprehend is Beirut’s criticism of DMI’s Innovation forum to be held at the end of this month. Ever since I’ve been in touch with DMI some eight years ago I always understood a part of their mission as creating logic links between design and other disciplines. Have you ever met a business executive (beside from Adobe) on a typo conference …

Personally I find the discussion stimulating and useful and I haven’t made up my mind about it, yet. In any case if you’re interested in what my favourite cheerleaders football players and football players cheerleaders think just read Bruce Nussbaum’s posting as well as Niti’s on CPH127.

Ralf, I’m the cheerleader, not the football player, unless it’s soccer, where I played goalie in school :)

But seriously, I must say that you have a point about the DMI’s work in attempting to integrate business principles, strategy and design towards a cohesive whole.
