As you might have noticed there is a lively discussion going on regarding my posting “Defining Design (Management) | designfeast.com” from last tuesday.
The initiator of this discussion is Jörg Walters a german fellow now living and doing business in Amsterdam/NL. You can visit him on the web at: www.design-manager.nl and browse for more information about his company.
While we’ve exchanged some emails last week I’ve had the idea to invite him for a guest posting about the “real life” of a designmanager beyond the fancy descriptions of what design management is about; or as Jörg calls it “Head in the sky, feet on earth.” Read his statement below.
What Jörg has in common with another commentator, Mark Fenwick from nesta/UK, is that I’ve conducted a workshop for them in the course of their MBA Design Management Programme at the University of Westminster in 2002. Yesterday another MBA graduate from the Netherlands, Joris Funcke, joined the discussion as well (Look after his latest book about “Living the Brand” which looks very promising!)
As a result I’ve decided that I will start a random series of guest postings by former Design Management students of mine. What I’m interested in is how they experience and live Design Management in their daily work. Did their perspective on Design Management change over time and finally what has been the benefit of their academic Design Management title. Was it worth the efforts: personally, financially, professionally?
I’m looking forward to re-connecting with my ex-student network! Stay tuned.
