my credo in design management education has always been that managers do not have to understand every detail of a technology. rather they should be able to understand the underlying notion and impact of new technologies in order to participate in general discussions right from the start.
this principle is also reflected in the addressing of the principles of disruptive technologies in the course of my workshops for design management students at INHOLLAND University (NL) or Westminster University (UK). very often business managers are constrained to think about present projects and problems. designers and design managers in contrast should be the ones to stimulate new, innovative and out of the box ideas and concepts.
this month the MIT technology review has published a top ten list of 10 emerging technologies that according to their evaluation will change our world in the future. among them are terms like: ‘Bayesian Machine Learning’, ‘RNA Interference‘ or ‘Microfluidic Optical Fibers‘ of which most of us certainly never heard of. however today is the perfect time to reflect on this and bring new deductions of these technologies to the next business meeting. read the complete article here >>>
