today I found an interesting article in “wired” [yes, it still exists ;-)]. information graphics guru edward tufte and former talking heads frontman david byrne discuss the influences which microsoft’s powerpoint has on our way of presenting information.
even though I agree with both of them on their main arguments against “powerpoint style presentations” I feel that tufte somehow represents the typical designer attitude: everything which is not made with “quark xpress” is suspicious. my point is: quark is good for brochures or books while powerpoint is the infrastructure tool for presentations. and finally: you can’t blame a software for the uglyness people produce with it. the best design is nothing without the right and interesting portion of content.
